Anghiari Farmholiday Sansepolcro Tiber Valley bed and breakfast

We are located in a very interesting spot among Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Emilia Romagna.
The Tiber Valley is a corner of Tuscany, rich from the naturalistic point of view, but also in historical, artistic and religious perspective. Nature is incredibly various: in some spots it's spectacular and uncontaminated, with hermitages, old farmhouses, parish churches and castles spread all around.
In a natural amphitheatre delimited by low hills, there's the plain crossed for 40 kms by the Tevere river: here, more than observing, you can breath art, history and culture.
The hills, on the edge between the landscape of Tuscany and the one of Umbria, are the scenery around which arouse old towns like Sansepocro and Anghiari. Sansepolcro is well known to be the home town of the painter Piero della Francesca, who immortalized the beautiful landscape of the valley in his paintings. Anghiari, on the other side, attracts many people due to its ancient medioeval architecture. Moreover, you can visit other enchnting old towns like Pieve Santo Stefano, which has a diaristic archive internationally recognized; Monterchi, where you can see the "Madonna del parto", one of the most beautiful frescos of Piero della Francesca; Caprese Michelangelo, where Michelangelo Buonarroti was born; and Sestino, old roman municipality.

Arezzo

Medioeval town, surrounded by hills covered with olive trees and vineyards, it stands in the middle of four valleys, that are rich in history, culture and food products of the highest quality. Every months there's a well known antique trade fair running on in the streets of the old centre.

You can also visit different museums, but we recommend especially two: the archaeologic one, which is located in a convent buildt on a roman amphitheatre; and the medioeval picture-gallery, where you can see the works of Piero della Francesca, Giorgio Vasari e Andrea della Robbia. In Arezzo have been filmed some scenes of the famous movie "Life is beautiful", directed by Roberto Benigni. .

Anghiari

Anghiari is a gorgeous medioeval town that dominates the Upper Tiber Valley. The strong walls of the 1200 Dc made it an inviolabile bastion and it has had a great importance in medioeval times due to its strategic location. Proud to be part of Tuscany, Anghiari became ally and witness of the civilization of Florence after the battle of the 29th of June 1440: battle that has been celebrated in a painting of Leonardo, nowadays lost.
It's from the 1388 that in Baldaccio square, called also square of the Mercatale, every wednesday there's the market. The theatre "dei Ricomposti" has been built in the 1790 and it shows a medioeval facade.

Sansepolcro

Inside the town, narrow streets of medioeval origin share the space with the ancient buildings of the nobles, with an harmonious colour tonality tipically tuscan. The heart of the town is an art jewel-case. Just to mention some of the beauties, it's worthed to remind the Resurrection of Piero della Francesca, the Holy Mother of Mercy by Piero della Francesca (Civic Museum) and an ancient wooden statue of holy face (cathedral).

Monterchi

Monterchi enjoys a location especially favorable. What it makes Monterchi universally notorious is the presence of an absolute masterpiece: the fresco of the Madonna del Parto, painted by Piero della Francesca around the 1459, probably to celebrate the mother born in Monterchi. Another little jewel is the Weights and mesures Museum, located in the sixteeenth-century Palazzo Massi: it's an extraordinary and wide collection of instruments of all the times for the measure of different weights.

Città di Castello

Città di Castello, located on a low high round in the middle of the green hills, is the most important and populated town of the Upper Tiber Valley. Depositary of a precious historical, religious and artistic heritage, it's nowadays considered a significant town for its impressive ancient monuments and for the florid reinassance heritage. Moreover, every year a lot of turist are attracted here by the numerous and high-quality events organized by the town. Especially noticeable is the collection of the famous artist Burri, that has been made up since the 1978.
